Sunbeds Yay or Nay ... ♥

Evening Twinkles ...

So if you follow me on twitter you'd know a while ago i was having alot of trouble with the eczema on my legs ... so ive had numerous different creams/ointments/gels, steroid based creams, antibiotics of numerous kinds and nothings helped at all.

There just itchy all the time, dry & flaky :( and because im scratching them lots im causing lots of tiny chicken scratches (when you scratch and take the top layer of skin off) So it now looks like ive got lots & lots & lots of scratches!

Anyway I know alot of people who suffer from any type of eczema and stuff use sunbeds to help. My brother-in-law and friend both use them and they help so much, they only go on once a week for 9 mins and can see a massive difference.

So ive been thinking should i give it a go? Once/twice a week for a month and see if there's any difference, Im not doing it for any type of tan, if i could i'd just put my legs under the lights lol

So the question im asking is whats your opinons? Do you have eczema? How do you control it?

  1. They give light treatment to those with some skin ailments in the dermatologists that I go to, looks like a sunbed. Can you just go on one but wearing like a tshirt and shorts? I would never recommend going on one and I don't myself but if you get rid of it after a few sunbeds then maybe you can keep control of it going forward rather than making the sunbeds a regular occurance..just be warned, being tanned is addictive x

  2. No no no!!! It would help 100% there is no question about it but it has such harmful rays and will actually triple your risk of skin cancer!

My boyfriend has skin problems so the best thing to do it go to your doctor and explain everything and explain how nothing has worked and then ask it you can have a course of light treatment.
It is basically the same as a sunbed but stood up and minus the UVA/UVB rays that cause cancer!
It will also be free unlike a sunbed.

Really really don't go on them girly!

  3. @Sarah - Im going to go back to my GP and say i want to be refered to a dermatologist as its awful and i hate the state of my legs ... Ive always been against sunbeds ... i.e ppl who go on them every day i think the damage they cause is unbelieveable! I know a tan can be addictive but i dont mind being pale, my skin is a very light olive colour so im not that pale anyway!
    Thanks huni!

  7. Evening!
Have you tried dream cream from lush? It worked well on my eczema, and i suffer from it really badly.
I've always been tempted by sunbeds, but never done it. The sun is better for my skin, and i'd rather not risk getting skin cancer as well as eczema!

Good luck, I know how unconfortable it is!

  11. I agree they're dangerous but my best friend suffers for eczema terribly .. any kind of sunlight clears it up, natural or sunbed! We were in the sun for a couple hours yesterday and even that cleared it up a little =) xo

  12. I would never use a sunbed. I definitely agree with Sarah, go and see if you can get light treatment. One of my best friends suffered from awful eczema all over her body since she was tiny and she was always flaky and irritated. In 6th form she was given light treatment and now her skin looks AMAZING, like you'd never know she ever had that awful eczema.

  13. It has to be extreme to get light treatment. The treatment you get given does contain harmful rays though, and the risks for skin cancer is the same as going out in the sun, however you are given very short bursts of it.

My Grandfather has had the treatment, and he had to sign a waiver about the risks of skin cancer.

The UV treatment is much preferable to a sunbed which doesn't always work, but if it's not extreme a sunbed may work for you.
